Working alongside the physicians of the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, the Hawkins Foundation provides a unique set of resources and infrastructure for education and research in the world of orthopaedics.

Located in Greenville, SC, we partner with organizations that contribute to optimally carrying out our mission, including CERortho, ATI Therapy, Prisma Health System, Clemson University, University of South Carolina, Furman University and other organizations and individuals who contribute significantly to our collaborative efforts to define value in orthopaedic medicine.

Dr Hawkins

Our Founder

Dr. Hawkins is a founding member and past President of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, as well as past President of the Orthopaedic Learning Center of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.  He is Chairman of the Hawkins Foundation and past program director of the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas Fellowship Program, having trained more than 200 fellows during his career.  Having served as Medical Director and team physician for the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos, Dr. Hawkins cared for numerous teams and many athletes from high school to the professional level.  Dr. Hawkins retired in 2016 and now resides in Florida where he enjoys playing golf and tennis and spending time with family and friends.

Hawkins Foundation Chapters

Bell Chapter

Akron, OH

Orthopaedic surgeons at the Crystal Clinic are the first to establish a chapter of the Hawkins Foundation in their hometown of Akron, Ohio. Named the Bell Chapter in honor of long time leader Dr. Robert H. Bell, this chapter of the Hawkins Foundation takes up the mission of improving orthopaedic outcomes through research and education, alongside their colleagues in South Carolina.

Mississippi Chapter

Jackson, MS

Our latest chapter has been established in Jackson, MS. Orthopaedic Surgeons at Capital Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center surgeons are anxious to go deeper into patient-center care with new technology tools and also support local athletes throughout the region with resources established within the chapter.
