Fellowship Education

The Steadman Hawkins' International Fellowship provides provides broad clinical sports medicine exposure for non-US medical physicians.

International Sports Medicine Fellowship

The International Fellowship gives a non-US medical physician the opportunity to immerse himself or herself in a year of basic, translational, or applied orthopaedic research activity.

Medical Fellows experience the excitement and intellectual rewards of research before making plans for professional practice. Leading orthopaedic fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeons within the GHS/Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine clinic and in conjunction with The Hawkins Foundation mentor the physician.

International Fellows will be actively involved with a significant number of projects under the direction of Dr. John Tokish, Program Director. They are expected to effectively advance experimental design off of the hypothesis and establish the research methods to be employed for the project. Statistical analysis will be done before IRB approval will be obtained. The fellow will be exposed to the department of public health at the University of South Carolina with which we have an affiliation. This will be in teaching and learning on experimental design and hypothesis testing and research methods.. The fellow will also have direct access to the Hawkins Foundation Bioskills lab, located at Greenville Hospital System
